Did you ever got requests like "hmmm, can I get a vertical bar chart instead of horizontal?", or maybe "can you change this chart to show profit instead of sales?".
Sometimes is just too hard to make everyone happy right?
If you're familiar with these kind of questions you will just love the new Power BI functionality, the solution for all your problems is called Personalise your visuals!
With Personalise Visuals, you can empower your end user to change the report, make his/her own adaptations in order to see the information that is most important to them. They can change the axis of the chart to show some other metric, change the type of visual, or even add a tooltip. Endless power to your end user!
Yes, you read it right! You can now allow users to do this kind of changes themselves, saving you all that trouble of having to change your report over and over again.
Check this out!
To explain how this feature works, I chose the hottest topic of the year: COVID-19 (not for good reasons, of course).
1) To be able to use this new feature, you need to enable it first. To do this, go to File > Options and Settings > Options:
2) Once you're in the Options window, select Preview Features. When you're in the Preview Features Tab click on Personalise Visuals to enable this option on your report.
You can choose to enable or disable it for each report, depending on if you want users to be able to change the visual/metric or not.
3) Once you enabled this feature, the power is now on your end user hands!!
To see this feature in action you need to publish your report first. I've published my (very simple) COVID-19 analysis on Power BI Service. Once published, do one final check to see if the option is enabled for your report:
4) You should now be able to see the Personalise Visual symbol when you hover over your report. Play a bit with it and be amazed by this new feature!
Tip: There is nothing better than a user that knows how to play with her/his report! To fully enjoy the capabilities of Personalise Visuals, teach your users to use bookmarks so they can always have their personalised view of the report at hand!
